Chair of CMA back in top job

24/07/2008 9:51:00 AM
The chairman of Western NSW Catchment Management Authorities (CMA), Rory Treweeke, was one of 10 reappointments to head up the authority for a further three-year term.

When asked about his reappointment Mr Treweeke said, “I am very, very pleased. It’s a great privilege to head up such a wonderful, hardworking team.”

The NSW Minister for Climate Change and the Environment, Verity Firth, announced Mr Treweeke’s reappointment saying, “it was a vote of confidence in the leadership of the CMAs and their work.

“They play a strong leadership role and ensure that the CMA board is effective in engaging with the community, business and government agencies around key issues facing the catchments.”

The authority is accountable for achieving sustainable outcomes in their catchments.

With the recent chair announcements, this means the tough management job

can continue without interruption.

Since the Western CMA became operational in 2004, it has assisted local people to protect 26,290 hectares of riparian (riverside) vegetation through fencing, rehabilitate 81,863 hectares of native

vegetation through water ponding, water spreading, contour furrowing and invasive native scrub (woody weeds) management, and protect 27,500 hectares of native

vegetation through improved total grazing pressure management and goat control measures.
